Mondays and Tuesdays
The clinic runs at our Florence office on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Start with a consultation
We prefer to meet in our Florence office for your initial consultation. Remote consultations are also available.
There is help
Although there is no cure for tinnitus, there are absolutely ways to help manage the tinnitus so it becomes much less bothersome in your life. Yes, there is life beyond tinnitus!
Illustrative sound examples
What can tinnitus sound like?
These short, synthetic sounds illustrate ringing, buzzing and hissing. Tinnitus varies from person to person. These examples are not a hearing test or a diagnosis.
Start with your device volume low. Stop immediately if a sound feels uncomfortable.
Ringing
5 seconds
A steady, high-pitched tone.
Buzzing
5 seconds
A low, continuous buzzing sound.
Hissing
5 seconds
A soft wash of noise, like static.
Choose an example to listen. Each sound stops after 5 seconds.
Understanding tinnitus
Living with sound no one else can hear
Tinnitus is ringing, buzzing, humming or other noise in the ears that no one else can hear. For some people it comes and goes. For others it is there all the time, and it can get in the way of sleep, concentration, work and time with the people you love.
If you have been told there is nothing you can do, we would like to talk with you. The Tinnitus Specialty Clinic is built around one goal: giving you your quality of life back, so tinnitus takes up less of it.
“We cannot take the tinnitus away, but our goal is to give you back your quality of life so the tinnitus no longer controls it.”
Dr. Lesley Kirby, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology
What makes it different
A specialty program, not a standard hearing test
The clinic is its own clinical pathway, focused only on tinnitus, with care that is easy to reach from wherever you live.
A dedicated pathway
Focused on tinnitus alone, not bundled into a standard hearing evaluation or a hearing aid fitting.
Led by a Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Lesley Kirby brings 36 years of clinical experience, including 26 years in private practice in the Pee Dee.
Care in Florence and from home
Your comprehensive diagnostic evaluation needs to take place within the Florence office. The initial consultation and many of the follow-up appointments can be completed remotely.
A personalized tinnitus evaluation
Diagnostic testing, a review of your results and a personalized plan informed by your individual tinnitus.
Goal-focused care
We work to reduce how much tinnitus bothers you, restore your quality of life and give you practical tools to manage it long-term.
Relationship-first
A home-like office, and a team that will still know your name years from now.
How it works
A simple path to care
Your care begins with a consultation, preferably in our Florence office, with remote options available. Your comprehensive diagnostic evaluation takes place in Florence, and many follow-up appointments can be remote.
01
Initial consultation
A 30-minute conversation with Dr. Kirby about your tinnitus, how it affects your daily life, and whether the clinic may be able to help. We prefer to meet in person in Florence, but remote consultations are available.
02
Tinnitus diagnostic evaluation
If the clinic is right for you, you will return for a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation in our Florence office to understand the characteristics and true nature of your individual tinnitus.
03
Your treatment options
We review your results with you and present personalized treatment options and a management plan based on your individual tinnitus.
04
Ongoing care
Follow-up appointments provide progress check-ins and any adjustments to your plan. Many can be remote; depending on your treatment protocol, some may need to take place in the office.
Our approach
Managing tinnitus, not promising a cure
We won’t promise that tinnitus will disappear. What we can do is help you understand yours and build a plan to manage it.
The aim is habituation: helping tinnitus fade into the background so it bothers you less over time. Your plan gives you practical tools to manage it day to day and over the long term.
Reduce the bother
Lower how much tinnitus gets in the way of sleep, focus and daily life.
Restore quality of life
Get back to work, family time and the things you enjoy.
Tools for the long term
Practical ways to manage tinnitus, with follow-up support when you need it.

If any of these sound familiar, a consultation is a good place to start.
