Hearing evaluations
Your hearing, measured and explained
A comprehensive evaluation measures where hearing loss has occurred, to what degree, and how clearly you understand speech. Your provider then reviews the results with you and talks through next steps.
History first
A genuine conversation about your medical and hearing history. We want to understand your communication challenges, where you notice difficulty, and how your loved ones experience communication with you.
Hearing and speech
We measure when sound becomes uncomfortably loud and how you understand speech in quiet and noisy settings. After all, everyday life is rarely quiet.
Results, explained
Knowledge is powerful. We take time to explain what your results tell us about the difficulties you have noticed. Then we choose next steps together, with unhurried, individualized attention.
What to expect
Your evaluation, step by step
Having your hearing checked for the first time? A hearing evaluation is a great first step toward hearing health, and it’s simple and straightforward.

01
History and ear exam
A Doctor of Audiology or licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist reviews your history and examines both ear canals with a video camera, so you can see inside your ears together. We check the ear canals and eardrums and look for wax buildup that may affect your hearing.
02
Hearing and speech testing
Using evaluation equipment, your provider measures your hearing to find where loss has occurred and to what degree, and measures how clearly you understand speech in quiet and noisy settings.
03
Hearing Treatment Programs
Your specialist demonstrates hearing-aid features and evaluates which can support your listening needs. Hearing aids provide prescribed amplification, while LACE (Listening and Communication Enhancement) gives you structured practice making sense of sound. Think of it as auditory “physical therapy”: short exercises at home for 10–15 minutes a day over one month. LACE is included in every retail hearing aid treatment program at Lifetime Hearing Services.
04
Results and next steps
Your provider reviews the results of your hearing evaluation and needs assessment with you. If treatment is needed, you’ll choose an option together.
